Committees

This is a year- round committee that organizes conferences, seminars, workshops, socials/meetups and other VAMLIS activities. The main focus is planning the annual GIS Conference (GeoCon). The President-Elect or other appointed executive council member chairs this committee. We are seeking members for this committee.
This is a year-round committee that is responsible for publishing the newsletter and other materials, conducting member surveys, and maintaining the membership directory and other content on the web page. It also coordinates the dissemination of all member related information via emails and other social media accounts. The Vice-President or other appointed executive council member chairs this committee. We are seeking members for this committee. The Education Committee and has been absorbed by the Executive Council. The Membership Committee duties have been absorbed by the Communications/Marketing Committee.
The President and/or Past-President appoints a nominating committee, once a year, consisting of three (3) voting members in good standing. The sole responsibility of this committee shall be to select at least one (1) member in good standing from the pool of voting members for each open Executive Council position. Nominations should represent candidates that live or work in Virginia. The committee’s recommendations will be posted for election by members at the annual conference. Current (FY 24-25) Nominating Committee members include Stuart Blankenship, Chris Broschart and Jennifer Hale.
The Policy Committee, formerly known as the Legislative Committe, is charged with monitoring policies and legislation that have the potential to impact Virginia mapping and land information systems professionals. The Committee is charged with summarizing and reporting to the VAMLIS membership information on policy and legislation related to mapping and land information systems. For purposes of tracking and reporting, mapping and land information systems include surveying and the geographic information systems field. The Technology Committee members include Yeoanny Venetsanos, Jennifer Ciminelli, Brian Kingery and Eric Schmidt.
The Technology Committee was appointed by the Board to lead the VAMLIS website update project. This Committee reports to the Board. The Technology Committee members include Shonia Holloway, Stuart Blankenship and Jennifer Hale. We extend our gratitude to this committee, and to our current website provider - guru - developer and supporter, Luke Bilger of Socra Studios.
